Vulpiano Records is very pleased to welcome back Andy Baker (aka Anton Rothschild, and member of Fire Island Pines) for his release as Branch Line Idols. Baker continues to excel at sophisticated rhythms and a spacious minimalism in electronic sound and the art of pop as it should be.
"I can't reach out with my hands. I can't touch things. And when I touch, I feel nothing"
Very loosely translated, and then further paraphrased, these are the sentiments of Alain Leroy, the fictional, suicidal, alcoholic protagonist of Louis Malle's 1963 film "Le Feu Follet". The film is partly based on the life of the Dadaist Jacques Rigaut.
Anton Rothschild is Andy Baker. Andy Baker is a person. He played in the indie band "Fire Island Pines". He made some sort of dance / electronica music once or twice and he calls this "Branch Line Idols". Poorly paraphrased, and loosely translated, this is what he came up with for Vulpiano's netlabel day release.
